Spring Cleaning

Lately I’ve been spending some time at work digging through all the crap I’ve got laying around. Here’s a conversation related to this: Me Do you still have this thing? (Hands over a driver CD) Boss Sure. (Tries to hand me the corresponding device) Me I’m not looking for the device, I’m trying to get rid of the CD.

Impressions

Once I really started trying to catch up, it look less than a day. Here are a few observations I made along the way: Progressive lack of sleep1 combined with jetlag does not seem to help this process. The day that it took me only a small part of was Monday. I’ve got quite a few feeds [...]

Lighting Up

I sort of “went dark” this week. I was in Los Angeles for a few exhibits we worked on for the LA Auto Show. We flew out Monday and returned Friday. At some point on Tuesday, I was definitely caught up in NetNewsWire for iPhone. By Friday morning it had been at least a couple of days. Today, I started [...]

Signs you need to clean your desk more often

You find an envelope on your desk claiming “2008 is almost here” It’s currently May. Of 2008.1 The envelope contains the 2008 edition of your current desk calendar. The older model is displaying its cover page, rather than a month. It’s a 2006 calendar. Substitute any other year as needed. ↩

Sixteen

I’ve mentioned the furry contingent of our household in my writing here; their names are Miesha, Sasha, and Chi-Chi, oldest to youngest. Miesha and Sasha have been together forever, and Sasha tolerates Chi-Chi like an annoying kid brother who’s always following him around. Miesha and Chi-Chi don’t really get along. If they’re all scared, they can all hide [...]

Merry Christmasish!

We finally had our big family gift exchange last night — this is actually a major win for Mom. Sure, she failed in her quest to get it into December this year, but we still had it before the first full week in January. A little while after my sister had arrived, her children had made enough of [...]

Coming of Age

The following story is true; the dates have been changed to protect the lazy. Last night, I heard a sound for the first time, although I still somehow recognized it instantly. I was sitting at my computer working and I heard my wife scream from the living room. Mind you, I’ve known her for a lot [...]

Crash Course

It snowed here Sunday evening, and since we spend Christmas morning with L’s parents and the evening with mine, we had to drive through it. It wasn’t a note-worthy drive because it was the first snow — that happened weeks ago. It wasn’t snowing especially hard, the roads weren’t glassed over with ice, and you could generally see things [...]

9,000 Miles

The second 4,500 was a lot harder than the first — and not entirely because of the number of connections we made. A high point of the return trip was the United agent taking boarding passes for the last hop from O’Hare to Detroit Metro; none of the others had commented on us presenting an Island Air boarding [...]

Pictures of New Car and Stanford

At times, I miss the punch and gas economy of my Civic, even though that was two cars ago now. At no time, however, do I miss squeezing my 6′ 5″ frame into a Civic. Where’s a _convert any gas vehicle to a biodiesel-electric hybrid for less than a year’s salary__ service when you need one? [...]
